Bega means shoulder in Swahili.
Bega is made partly from recycled materials. The base is made from car tyres and the lining comes from men’s shirts. Inside the bag you´ll find a zipper pocket, which is actually the chest pocket of the shirt which has been metamorphosed into a bag lining!
The adjustable shoulder strap is made of thick leather and the rest of the bag consists of water resistant canvas. The bag fits both men and women.
Mifuko´s Bega and BigBega bags have leather straps. The leather comes from Kenyan cows, which. graze freely from place to place. The leather is tanned according to European standards and dyed in metal free dyes.
Bega bag is made at the Bombolulu workshop in Mombasa or Rift Valley Leather in Nairobi. Bombolulu educates and employs physically challenged artisans. It offers its workers free accommodation, medical care and education. Rift Valley Leather operates a continuous training programme, conducted by Robert (who has extensive international training experience), both to enhance existing skills and introduce new techniques to the work force.
